WHAT A STORY! Ukraine looked to be heading out of the tournament at the half-time break with Rebrov’s side desperately looking for some inspiration and failing to find any as they went behind to a whirlwind Slovakia. It was Schranz who scored for the second game running to give the Slovaks the 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Ukraine hit the woodwork through Tymchyk in the 33rd minute, but they had plenty of work to do to find a way back after the restart. They came out a different outfit in the second period and an unmarked Shaparenko slotted home a cross from Zinchenko to level the score in the 54th minute before substitute Yaremchuk expertly scored in the 80th minute to hand Ukraine the 2-1 win. Both sides ended the game with five shots on target, but Ukraine had a better xG of 1.61, despite only seeing 44 per cent possession, compared to Slovakia’s 1.09. Ukraine will now face Belgium in a heavyweight clash on Wednesday while Slovakia face Romania in their final group stage game.

UKRAINE TAKE THE LEAD! And it’s Yaremchuk who comes off the bench to score what could be a vital goal for the Ukrainians. The attacker does well to bring down Shaparenko’s long ball into the box and delicately slots it past Dubravka and into the goal to make it 2-1 for Ukraine!

Shaparenko showed great vision to read substitute Yaremchuk’s run and also execute the pass over the Slovakian defence onto the path for the attacker!

CHANCE! Zubkov runs down the middle and plays Mudryk through on goal, but the pass is a little overhit and the Chelsea attacker’s shot from a tight angle is parried onto the woodwork and out by Dubravka.

There is a break in play as Slovakia’s Hancko goes down injured after sustaining some damage while stretching to bring a pass under his control. The defender receives treatment on the sideline as the play resumes.

Zinchenko, who is making his 10th appearance for Ukraine in a major tournament today, comes up with the assist for the goal that could turn his country’s fortunes around in this tournament.

GOAL! Ukraine restore parity after a quick break. Mudryk breaks with pace and shifts the ball to the left, and it looked like the chance was gone. But Zinchenko’s ball into the box was met by Shaparenko who placed his effort past Dubravka! It’s 1-1 with a little over 35 minutes to go!

It’s a break in play straight after the restart as there is a clash of heads between Zinchenko and Pekarik. Both players are back on their feet and will rejoin the action after getting medical attention.

After dominating possession against Romania in their opener, Ukraine had to play second fiddle to Slovakia in their second Group E outing and ended the first half seeing only 43.1 per cent of the ball and with an xG of 0.61. Both sides registered seven shots in the first 45 minutes, but Slovakia had five of them on target, compared to Ukraine’s two, and importantly put one in the back of the net just past the half-hour mark after creating an xG of 0.86. Slovakia have a live win probability of 57.7 per cent at the interval while Ukraine’s chance of a comeback win stands at 14.5 per cent, meaning they will need to beat the odds here to keep themselves alive in the Euro 2024!

Slovakia head into the half-time interval with their noses in front after Schranz came up with another important goal to give his side a 1-0 lead against Ukraine in the 17th minute. It was Slovakia who began the game brightly at the Dusseldorf Arena and Schranz, who hit the winner to upset Belgium in the opener, went close in the 10th minute only to be denied by Trubin who replaced Lunin in the Ukraine goal. However, there was no stopping the Slavia Prague striker seven minutes later when he turned in Haraslin’s cross at the far post. Rebrov’s Ukraine were a much-improved outfit towards the later stages of the first period and hit the woodwork through Tymchyk in the 33rd minute. They have their work cut out to find a way back against this resolute Slovakian defence in the second half.

SAVE! Slovakia wins the ball in the opposition half and break on the counter. Duda picks out Haraslin who has acres of space to run into on the left and the Slovakian hits it low and hard. Trubin, however, is there to save the blushes for his side again!

UKRAINE HIT THE WOODWORK! Yarmolenko drives down the right and finds Dobvyk inside the box and the striker backheels it back to the former West Ham United man who has continued his run. The Slovakian defence clear their lines but only as far as Tymchyk whose shot from inside the box rattles the post!

Målgivende

It was good work from Haraslin to get behind the Ukrainian defence and cross the ball in from the byline!

GOAL! Ukraine are in tatters as Slovakia take a quick throw-in on the left and Haraslin crosses the ball into the far post where Schranz is there to head the ball into the back of the net! It’s 1-0 to Slovakia in Dusseldorf!

SAVE! Hancko steps up to take the free-kick and manages to get it over the defensive wall, but Trubin once again comes to Ukraine’s rescue! They are holding on here!

BACK-TO-BACK CHANCES! Unsurprisingly, it is Slovakia who create the first clear opening of the game as Haraslin skips past defenders before his low drive is saved by Trubin. But the goalkeeper has more work to do as the ball comes back into the box and the Slovakia custodian has to produce a brilliant save to deny Schranz from close range!

Both sets of players are on the pitch at the Dusseldorf Arena ahead of the kick-off which is now seconds away.

UKRAINE SUBS: Andrii Lunin, Yukhym Konoplia, Taras Stepanenko, Viktor Tsyhankov, Heorhii Bushchan, Oleksandr Svatok, Maksym Talovierov, Serhii Sydorchuk, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Roman Yaremchuk, Vitalii Mykolenko, Oleksandr Zubkov, Valerii Bondar, Vladyslav Vanat, Bohdan Mykhailichenko.

UKRAINE (4-2-3-1): Anatolii Trubin; Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mykola Matviienko, Illia Zabarnyi, Oleksandr Tymchyk; Volodymyr Brazhko, Mykola Shaparenko; Mykhailo Mudryk, Heorhii Sudakov, Andrii Yarmolenko;  Artem Dovbyk.

SLOVAKIA SUBS: Adam Obert, Tomas Rigo, Norbert Gyomber, Tomas Suslov, Lubomir Tupta, Laszlo Benes, Marek Rodak, Patrik Hrosovsky, Vernon De Marco, David Strelec, David Duris, Matus Bero, Henrich Ravas, Leo Sauer, Sebastian Kosa.

SLOVAKIA (4-3-3): Martin Dubravka; David Hancko, Milan Skriniar, Denis Vavro, Peter Pekarik; Ondrej Duda, Stanislav Lobotka, Juraj Kucka; Lukas Haraslin, Robert Bozenik, Ivan Schranz.

Ukraine enjoyed an incredible 71.3 per cent possession against Romania in their opener but went on to lose 3-0, recording just two shots on target, compared to their opponent’s five, in Munich. In their fourth consecutive European championship appearance, Ukraine now have an uphill task to make it to the knockout stages, beginning with today’s encounter with Slovakia, which they cannot afford to lose. Ukraine’s last win against Slovakia came in September 2018 when they emerged 1–0 winners in the UEFA Nations League. Can Serhiy Rebrov’s side bounce back and get their campaign back on track?

The second matchday in Group E pits two sides who began their campaigns in contrasting fashion. Slovakia posted a stunning 1-0 win against Belgium in their opener on Monday and will be keen to seal progress with a win against Ukraine who fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Romania. However, Francesco Calzona’s side do not have a great record against today’s opponents having won just twice in their eight meetings, though their most recent encounter in November 2018 ended 4-1 in their favour. The lowest-ranked side in Group E will hope to avoid a repeat of Euro 2020 where they went on to lose both their remaining games after kicking off the tournament with a win over Poland.

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of this UEFA Euro 2024 Group E encounter between Slovakia and Ukraine from the Dusseldorf Arena!

Manchester United vs Everton 1-1

Sunday, December 15th, 2019

Manchester United substitute Mason Greenwood scored a 77th-minute equaliser to deny Duncan Ferguson a second successive win as Everton’s interim manager.

Everton looked set for back-to-back league victories for the first time since April when Victor Lindelof turned Leighton Baines’ first-half corner into his own goal, with VAR ruling David de Gea had not been impeded by Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they jumped at the near post.
